The yacht

Spica is a classic sailing yacht built in South Africa in 1983 and designed by the naval architect Bruce Roberts. At 43 feet, with two masts and a solid ocean-going hull, she combines the charm of traditional sailing with modern comfort and safety, and has several ocean passages behind her.

Based in Funchal, Madeira, Spica sails private charters along the island’s coastline. Each trip is planned with the guests: time to sail, time to swim, time to sit on deck and watch the coast.

On board

The yacht takes up to 10 guests and has two suites with electric bathrooms (one with a bathtub), a spacious lounge, a Bluetooth audio system, a full galley with stove, oven and refrigerator, and 1,000 litres of fresh water. Navigation electronics are Raymarine, with radar and depth sounder, and there is Wi-Fi on board.

On deck there are two dining tables, a swimming ladder, a hot and cold shower, a dinghy, an electric windlass and a charcoal barbecue for meals while sailing along the coast.

The captain

Captain João Gabriel has sailed the Atlantic for more than ten years. He knows the currents, the weather and the marine life of this coast, and where to find the quiet bays. He is also the one telling the stories on deck.

Food and drink

Every charter includes drinks and snacks. Bar service, a light lunch or a full meal can be arranged on request, and a private chef can cook on board: Madeiran dishes, barbecue on deck or vegetarian menus, with wines from the island.

What to bring

Comfortable clothes and shoes. Swimwear and a towel if you want to swim, sun protection, and a light jacket for the return.
