In short: Four routes for up to six guests: three days east or west, five days to Porto Santo and the Desertas, or a full week around the archipelago, sleeping on board.

A sailing holiday in Madeira on a classic yacht, for up to six guests who sleep on board. There are four programmes: three days on the east coast, three days on the west coast, five days with Porto Santo and the Desertas, and a full week around the archipelago. Each one leaves from Marina do Funchal and comes back there.

East: Machico and the Desertas, 3 days

  • Day 1, Funchal to Machico. Leave Funchal at 10:00 and sail along the coast, with a light lunch on board. Time in Machico bay for the sunset, dinner in the village (not included) and the night on board.
  • Day 2, Machico to the Desertas. Breakfast on board and away at 10:00 across the Atlantic. Go ashore to explore, have lunch and dinner on board, and spend the night at the Desertas.
  • Day 3, the Desertas to Funchal. Back to Madeira in the morning, with a stop at Caniçal, then Baía d’Abra for a light lunch and a swim. The sun sets on the sail home to Funchal.

West: Cabo Girão, Calheta and the west coast, 3 days

  • Day 1, Funchal to Cabo Girão. Board in Funchal at 16:00 and sail the south coast. Sunset under the cliffs of Cabo Girão, dinner on board and the night at anchor there.
  • Day 2, Cabo Girão to Calheta. Breakfast on board and a morning sail to Calheta marina. Lunch at the marina and dinner ashore (both not included), with a transfer to explore the west of the island. Night on board in the marina.
  • Day 3, the west coast. Jardim do Mar, Paul do Mar and Ponta do Pargo, with a light lunch in a bay and a stop to swim and snorkel. Sunset and dinner on board at Calhau da Lapa, and back in Funchal late in the evening.

Five days: the west coast, Porto Santo and the Desertas

  • Day 1, Funchal to Calheta. A swim at Cabo Girão, time at Calhau da Lapa, then Calheta marina for dinner ashore (not included) and the night on board.
  • Day 2, the west coast. Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar, with swims, snorkelling and a light lunch in a bay. Sunset at Cabo Girão, dinner on board and the night at anchor.
  • Day 3, the crossing to Porto Santo. A light lunch on board on the way and arrival in the afternoon. Night on board at Porto Santo, with dinner ashore (not included).
  • Day 4, Porto Santo. A full day on the island and its long beach. Diving, jeep tours and horse riding can be booked ashore (not included).
  • Day 5, Porto Santo to the Desertas and Funchal. Lunch on board at the Desertas, a swim and snorkel, and the sunset on the sail back to Funchal.

Seven days: around the archipelago

  • Day 1, Funchal to Calheta. Leave at 10:00 for the west, past Cabo Girão, Ponta do Sol and Paul do Mar, with swims and a light lunch on board. Sunset in Calheta and the night in the marina.
  • Day 2, Calheta to Funchal. A swim near Cabo Girão and a light lunch on board on the way back. Night on board in Funchal.

  • Days 5 and 6, Porto Santo. Two full days on the island: the beach, rest, and activities ashore if you want them (not included).
  • Day 7, Porto Santo to the Desertas and Funchal. Lunch on board near the Desertas, a swim if the sea allows, and the sunset on the sail back to Funchal.

On the seven-day programme, dinners are ashore each evening (not included), and the captain suggests where.

Good to know

Meals ashore and activities ashore are not included in any programme. Every route depends on the weather and the sea, and the captain can change the route, times, stops and where you spend the night for safety. Dates and the programme are agreed directly with the captain.

Questions people ask

How long can a charter last?

Three, five or seven days, following one of the four programmes on this page. The weekly charter is the full seven days, priced as six.

What is included, and what is not?

The yacht for your group, the skipper and crew, the nights on board, and the meals on board that each programme lists: breakfast, light lunches and some dinners. Meals ashore and activities ashore, such as diving, jeep tours or horse riding on Porto Santo, are not included; the captain suggests where to go.

How many guests can come?

Up to six. The yacht has two suites with private bathrooms.

Can the route change?

Yes. Every programme depends on the weather and the sea, and the captain can change the route, times, stops and where you spend the night for safety.

How many people can come aboard?

Up to 10 guests. Every charter is private: the yacht is yours for the trip, whether you are two or ten.

Where do we depart from?

From Marina do Funchal, in the centre of Funchal. We confirm the exact pontoon and the meeting time when you book.

What should we bring?

Comfortable clothes and shoes, swimwear and a towel if you want to swim, sun protection, and a light jacket for the return. Drinks and snacks are on board.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The captain decides on the day, with your safety first. If the sea does not allow the trip, we offer you another date or a refund.

Will we see dolphins?

Dolphins are not the aim of our trips. Spica sails for the coast, the swimming stops and the time on deck; it is not a dolphin or whale watching tour.
